placerville, california

This former gold rush town is a hot spot for area tourists who are interested in shopping at antique and curiosity shops in the “old town” atmosphere of downtown Placerville.

The old town is surrounded by lovely Victorian homes and cottages. Larger properties are spread throughout the city limits and are popular with many of those seeking “country living” within the reach of Sacramento or the high tech industry of Folsom. There are also growing numbers of new home subdivisions for newcomers to the area. Apartment living is scarce, but some is available. Pricing is as varied as the types of housing, but is generally moderately priced or better.

Placerville offers much in the way of recreation. It is near Folsom Lake and has many hiking and biking trails. The fall colors are especially pretty here. A favorite activity for locals and tourists alike is the Fall season at Apple Hill. This collection of apple orchards in Placerville attracts people far and wide to experience the joys of fall from food to arts and crafts. Apples can be purchased in bulk here and apple pies and apple cider are a specialty. Placerville is host to lively jazz festivals, antique car shows and open air markets in the Summer as well.
